Cooling tower piping installation method and precautions

----- Cooling tower piping method -----

A. General considerations

· Installation direction and placement essentials

1. Pay attention to piping.

2. When placed, it should be laid flat to avoid uneven water and affect the cooling effect.As shown in the figure.

3. The base screw should be tight.

· Piping

1. The circulating water inlet and outlet pipe should be downwards, and should not be higher than the lower water pipe.

2. The size of the piping should be attached to the size of the pipe at the bottom of the tower.。Otherwise, too small will affect the effect, too much will waste material.

3. The circulating water pump should be lower than the water level of the sink.As picture show

4. When two cooling towers share a water pump, the water tank must be equipped with a connecting pipe to make the cooling tower have the same water level .As picture show

5.    Vibration-proof hoses (high-pressure rubber pipes, etc.) should be used at the inlet and outlet nozzles of circulating water above 4 inches (10 cm) to prevent vibration of the tower body caused by the vibration of the pipes, and to avoid the loss of flume rupture caused by incorrect piping arrangement.

 

 

B.Special piping essentials

· Cooling tower piping is divided into the following ways according to its position:

1.Cooling tower location is higher than heat exchanger (or condenser)Common piping method.

Matters needing attention
a.The outlet pipe of the cooling tower must be located higher than the circulating water suction port.
b.A control valve must be installed at the inlet water pipe of the cooling tower to adjust the flow rate.
c.In order to prevent backflow when circulating water stops, a reverse pressure valve must be installed.

2. The cooling tower is at the same height as the main unit, but the water level in the sink is higher than the heat exchanger.

Matters needing attention
a.Refer to the first condition for construction.
b.Fill the pipes with water when starting,especially when the horizontal pipe is too long: in order to prevent the water pan from running out of water, always observe the change of water volume in the water pan.

3. Cooling tower location is lower than heat exchanger (or condenser)一一Replenishment tanks must be installed.

Matters needing attention
a.A control valve shall be installed at the water pipe of the cooling tower to adjust the water volume.
b.When the circulating water pump stops, the water in the pipeline will flow into the cooling tower sink to cause overflow, so the circulating water pump must be refilled when restarting.The supply tank capacity must be greater than the required overflow volume.

c.In order to reduce the consumption of make-up water, a reverse-pressure valve must be installed at the outlet of the circulating water pump.

4. Cooling tower for high temperature conditions─Temperature exceeds 46 ° C.

Matters needing attention
a.Cooling tower piping is constructed in

accordance with standard methods.
b.The return flow between P1 and P2 must

be properly adjusted.

5. In order to cope with future needs, a larger cooling tower is selected.

Matters needing attention
a.A return line must be installed to control

 the flow.
b.The circulating water pump must be selected

at the maximum flow rate.

 


6.When the cooling tower temperature difference is large, the circulating water volume is small.

 

 

C.Other matters

1.When the installation is completed, check whether there are tools or other unwanted objects placed in the tower or exhaust fan.

2.Pay attention to whether there is water leakage in the piping or sink.

3.When the water supply source is lower than the cooling tower, or the water pressure is insufficient, the water pump or the higher supply tank must be installed for refilling.

4.The most suitable place to install a cooling tower is a roof and a place with good air circulation.

5.Avoid being placed in soot and dusty places.

6.Not suitable for installation in places with corrosive gases, such as chimneys, hot spring areas.

7.Keep away from hot places such as boiler rooms and kitchens.
